I find some people in America disgusting — to say it as nicely or “politely” as I can — and that some is too large a sum.

What is TDS?

It’s a relatively new disease. I’ve found several statements where people try to define it. Some were so politically biased — both ways — I won’t give them any credibility. The most nearly generic and politically neutral definition I’ve found is that by Alex Pattakos, in Psychology Today, September 5, 2024: TDS is “a derogatory term used to describe a form of toxic criticism and negative reaction to … President Trump’s statements and political actions.”

As the title indicates, Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is also a serious disease. Those suffering from TDS it are severely ill mentally. It can even be fatal and has been directly for at least 2 people so far as I know. There may be others I’m not aware of.
It will be for many such others and also, unfortunately, for their victims in the near future.

The symptoms include:
– extreme and unjustified hatred of President Trump and his politics,
– reliance for news only from other TDS sufferers,
– ignorance of or ignoring history,
– poor judgment,
– irrational/distorted reasoning,
– a lack of human decency, and
– an unwillingness to agree with reasonable human legal standards.
– accepting payment for services supporting activities demonstrating the above

Isn’t it strange that these people also seem to have:
– Human-Caused Climate Change Derangement Syndrome,
– Woke Derangement Syndrome,
– Trans Derangement Syndrome,
– Gender Derangement Syndrome,
– Political Derangement Syndrome,
– Economic Derangement Syndrome,
– Ideological Derangement Syndrome,
– Illegal Alien Derangement Syndrome,
– Criminal Derangement Syndrome, and
– maybe others.

How can anyone have so many problems and still function in a civilized society? (Maybe they don’t very well except within their clique?)

It’s like they only have one-eyed or monocular vision. They aren’t capable of using both eyes and seeing stereoscopically. Without that, they can’t see the bigger picture of the world.

They remind me of the flat-earth and we-never-went-to-the-moon believers. Photos, the laws of physics, and every other means of describing the earth and moon demonstrate the truth.
But reality is more than these simple- or small-minded, limited vision people can comprehend.

Propagated and reinforced by multiple dominant and heavily-biased sources — including the news media, our educational system, social media, and some in the government — such strong, internally-ingrained beliefs are not easily changed.
Once convinced of something, they continue to hold to that belief in spite of their wrong “facts.” There is a term for this phenomenon: Belief perseverance — a tendency to maintain an established belief despite demonstrated contradictory evidence.

I won’t list the disgusting terms those with TDS have called Trump and his supporters, which are typically 180 degrees out of phase with reality. To be so far out of touch, I wonder if these people even know what some of those terms really mean. Such people don’t deserve to live in a civilized society.

What if we were able to ask a person who has TDS specifically why they hate Trump? (There should be plenty of opportunities with all the paid and unpaid activists and other naïve followers.)
– Do they even have a reason why they do — other than copying or following others?
– Would they snub you?
– Would they turn up their self-righteous nose at you and walk away with their unsophisticated, disgusted look?
– Would they blow you off as a conspiracy theorist?
– Would they resort to violence and attack you?

I think I’ve seen all of these situations in the news.
If they did answer, would they give their standard memorized but untrue answers?
Then, what if this person was clearly shown that their beliefs were not true, would they still hate Trump?
Most likely.

It’s that belief perseverance thing, combined with their other negative characteristics.
